Do you want to disable the Lock Workstation feature in Windows 10?
Well, as you know, lot of users are switching between Mac OS X and Windows. In Mac OS X we use Command+L to select the address bar in web browser (e.g Safari). But in Windows things are a bit different, when you press Windows+L shortcut your system gets locked and you find yourself in the Lock Screen.
Disabling this keyboard shortcut can be useful to users that are addicted to using shortcuts like Command+L.
In this guide you will learn two methods to disable the Lock Workstation feature, this will also remove the “Lock” option from Start and the CTRL+ALT+DEL screen.
Disable Windows+L Keyboard shortcut
Disable Windows+L Using Registry Editor
The first method we are going to use is adding the DWORD value
DisableLockWorkstation in the Registry Editor, this will disable the Lock Workstation feature in Windows 10.
In order to open the Registry Editor we are going to use the command
regedit in the Run prompt (Windows+R).
Navigate to the following key path or if you are using the latest build (Creators Update) you can just paste it in the path shown in the Registry Editor.
Right-click on the “Policies” key and choose “New” > “Key“. Name the newly created key “system“.
Select the “system” key and right-click on the right side and choose “New” > “DWORD (32-bit) Value“. Name the value “DisableLockWorkstation“.
Double-click on the value
DisableLockWorkstation and put the value “1” instead of “0“. Click “OK“.
Disable Windows+L Using Group Policy Editor
If you are using Windows Pro or Windows Enterprise then this method is way easier and quicker to follow. This will allow you to disable the Lock Workstation feature in your Windows 10 PC the fastest way.
Open Run using the Windows+R key combination and enter “gpedit.msc“. Click “OK“.
Then go to “User Configuration” > “Administrative Templates” > “System” > “Ctrl+Alt+Del Options“.
Double-click on “Remove Lock Computer“.
Set the value to “Enabled” and click “OK“.
Changes are immediate, try to press Windows+L and nothing will happen.
You will notice that the “Lock” command has been removed from Start menu and CTRL+ALT+DEL screen.
