Do you want to stay focused during your work hours? Why not turning on the Quiet Hours feature then?

Quiet Hours is a wonderful feature on Windows 10 that allows you to do your job without having distraction. With one click you can disable all the incoming notifications temporarily. This is very useful if your activity requires focus or if you don’t want notifications during your presentation time.

Notifications show in the bottom right corner of your screen, and are used to notify you that an app needs your attention.

With UWP apps (Universal Windows Platform) like Gmail, Facebook or Slack it’s easy nowadays to get distracted because of notifications.

As you know focus is the essence of every successful work. Notifications slow you down and cut your focus in half!

All notifications fade away after a certain amount of time, but you can always access the history of notifications in the Action Center (use Win+A) to access it. After opening the Action Center you will get a list of all recent notifications that require your attention. The most critical will have a red mark.

Quite Hours on Windows 10 works exactly like a “Do Not Disturb” mode. In this brief tutorial we will see how

Better Manage App Notifications on Windows 10

Quite Hours: Your Way to Productive Work!

The Quite hours feature can be accessed from the action center. Click on the Action Center icon in the lower right corner of the Task bar or use the Win+A key combination. From here click on Quite hours to turn it On. To turn it Off click on it again.

Also you can also turn On Quiet Hours by right-clicking on Action Center icon. Right-click on the Action Center icon and select “Turn on Quite hours“. To disable it, right-click again and select “Turn Off Quiet hours“.

One thing you may want to note here is that unlike Windows 8.1, in Windows 10 the Quiet Hours does not support automatic action. You cannot set it to turn on and turn off at a specific time. This was possible with Windows 8.1, but the current version of Windows 10 does not support it yet. So, you have to enable and disable Quiet hours from the Action Center manually.

Go to the tab “Notifications” in left list.

You can also access the Notifications settings by opening the Action Center using the Win+A key combination, right-click on the “Quiet hours” and choose “Go to Settings“.

Turn Off/On Notifications for Specific Apps on Windows 10

If you don’t wish to disable notifications for all apps on Windows 10, then you can choose to turn off notifications for selected apps only. This can either be your Anti-Virus software or your FTP client buzzing you all the time.

Go to “Settings app(Win+I) > “System” > “Notifications and actions“. Scroll down to “Get notifications from these senders“. Here you will see all the apps for which Notifications are turned on. In my case I have to turn Off the notifications for FileZilla, all I have to do is toggle it off. To access advanced settings for notifications in a particular app click on the app name.

This will give you more control over the notifications sent by your app which include:

  • Notifications – Turn Off or On all notifications for this app.
  • Show notification banners – Hide or show the banner that pops up in the bottom right corner of your screen.
  • Keep notifications private on the lock screen – Hide or show notifications on the lock screen.
  • Show notifications in action center
  • Play a sound when a notification arrives
  • Number of notifications visible in action center – The maximum number of notification messages to show in action center.
  • Priority of notifications in action center (top, high and normal)
