Are you using Windows 10 N edition?

Do you want to fix the error “… WMVCore.DLL is missing…” ?

To make things short, this error comes from the lack of having Windows Media Player installed on your Windows, because Windows Media Player doesn’t come installed with N and KN editions of Windows 10.

In fact the N and KN editions don’t include any media-related technologies and media apps in general such as Groove Music, Skype, Video and Voice Recorder…

The first advice I will give to you is: NEVER download a DLL file from DLL websites!

Because there is nothing like the original DLL which you will find in official packages and updates from Microsoft.

In our case to get the WMVCore.DLL we are going to use different methods that you will discover in the course of this tutorial.

The error: “The program can’t start because WMVCore.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.” shows up primarily when using media-related programs such as Camtasia, CamRecorder or Adobe Premiere Pro.

In case you have upgraded from an old version of Windows you can recover the DLL file from the folder “Windows.old” without needing to download nor install anything.

How to Fix “WMVCore.DLL is Missing” in Windows 10

1. Recover WMVCore.DLL from Windows.old Folder

The default location of the file that is used by media programs is “C:\Windows\System32\” and may also be duplicated in other locations as well.

Open the File Explorer using the Win+E key combination.

Go to “My Computer” and access your “C:” drive, then open the folder “Windows.old” and search inside the folder “System32” for the file WMVCore.DLL. Copy the DLL file.

Go back to “My Computer” and this time in your “C:” drive go open the folder “Windows” and paste the DLL file inside the folder “System32“.

After you copy the file WMVCore.DLL into the folder “System32” try launching the program that triggered the error. You shouldn’t get any errors this time!

If you didn’t find the DLL file inside your Windows.old folder then please move on to the next method.

2. Fix WMVCore.DLL Error by Installing Windows Media Player

If you have difficulty finding the file WMVCore.DLL in the previous method then you have to install Windows Media Player. It’s easy and will install the DLL and other media-related files for you.

If you are running the N and KN version of Windows 10, then you can download the Windows Media Feature Pack.

Once your have downloaded this Standalone Installer, just double-click on it and follow the installation instructions. After the installation please restart your computer and try launching your program again.

3. Other Fixes for the WMVCore.dll Error

This error often get displayed in the Windows 10, 8 and 8.1 versions of Windows.

Types of WMVCore.DLL is Missing Errors?

It is not necessary that you would see WMVCore.DLL is missing error every time. The error can occur in several ways with different messages. Some of the most common WMVCore.DLL is Missing Error are:
